From the recording Sugar On My Mind
Once upon a time NYC based songwriter Eleanor Dubinsky and saxophone/flutist Erik Lawrence (Little Feat, Levon Helm's Midnight Ramble Band) gathered five great musicians together in Eleanor's Queens apartment for a day to write and record a new song.
Improvisation and organic exchange gave birth to Sugar On My Mind, a flirty, upbeat, eclectic romp through candyland, featuring Charlie Burnham (Cassandra Wilson, Martha Redbone) on mandola (a rare ancestor of the mandolin on which the strings are tuned like a viola), Seth Moutal on tabla, Lawrence on flutes, soaring, earthy vocals by Maryn Azoff and Dubinsky, plus Dubinsky covering bass lines on her cello.
Sugar on My Mind takes us from a pickin' to a spiritual sound bath - a profession of love and desire that wraps its arms around its listener with fun, respect and worldly tenderness.
Fun fact: the ensemble rounds out the percussion at the end of the song by shaking sugar packets.
Recorded and mixed by E. Scott Lindner at Pinch Recording, mastered by Paul Gold at Salt Mastering.
